Here’s how much 2020 presidential candidate Kamala Harris is worth: 2020Money

. Their assets include homes in Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco worth an estimated $5.8 million before debt. There are also retirement accounts worth at least $1.4 million. And two capital accounts tied to law firms where Emhoff has worked, worth at least $1 million.

When Harris was 12, her family moved to Montreal, pulled north by her mother’s job. In high school Harris picked Howard University to get her undergraduate degree, knowing that one day she wanted to become a lawyer. Later, at UC Hastings College of Law she narrowed in on becoming a prosecutor. After graduation in 1989, she took a job in the Alameda County district attorney’s office. Nine years later, Harris moved across the bay to work at the San Francisco district attorney’s office.

As attorney general, Harris filed financial disclosures with the state, which required her to list some—though not all—of her assets. The documents also noted certain gifts, like a mug and a “gift box” from California billionaires, worth $100. In 2016, she received $460 basketball game tickets from Los Angeles Clippers Head Coach Doc Rivers. The gifts were small perks, sure, but Harris was earning roughly the same amount of money she was when she started as district attorney.

Over the past five years, Harris and Emhoff have earned about $8.2 million—most of it from Emhoff’s work at Venable and another firm, DLA Piper. In 2014, the first year the couple filed taxes jointly, they listed combined earnings of $1.3 million, up from the $129,000 Harris made on her own the year before.
