It was all eyes in the sky as people from across the country looked up at the annular eclipse on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science hosted a watch party for the annular solar eclipse. Others watched from their homes.

“Anything space related it’s a big deal for me, and I’m really excited,” Monish Thakore from the Heights said. For Jimmy Newland, it was a learning experience said. “Houston is, when we think about the moon and going to the moon, I like to tell the students we are where that happened, was the first word said from the moon,” Newland said.People used all kinds of equipment to get a look -- from telescopes to pinhole projectors made of cereal boxes, even sunspotters.

The eclipse could be viewed safely from the shadows of trees or with special solar glasses. The daytime sky became noticeably dimmer when the moon passed in front of the sun. The annular eclipse becomes an awe-inspiring moment for future scientists. “It is a big deal. The next time we get this big of a thing is 2046, we might not even be in Texas at that point."“I’m trying to show the students you can bring a love of science and appreciation of what’s going on to a space,” Newland said. “Everyone can be out together. It feels like a very Houston event we’re at the museum, sharing with the public, and I have my students actually doing the teaching and it feels really good.
