EDMONTON — United Conservative Party Leader Jason Kenney announced his first cabinet on Tuesday, shortly after he was officially sworn in as Alberta’s 18th premier.
Shandro has a long record in community service, having served on the National Parole Board and the Calgary Police Commission, among others.— Jason Kenney April 30, 2019Ric McIver — Minister of Transportation LaGrange has previously served as a Catholic school board trustee. She takes over a hot file, which has seen debates over gay-straight alliances and spats over charter schools. She was born in Guelph, Ont., but moved to Red Deer to her husband’s family farm in 1984. Her career was as a rehabilitative practitioner working with mentally and physically disabled people. She was first elected as a school trustee in 2007.
Dreeshen is a fifth-generation farmer, and the director of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association. Most recently, she was vice-president of the Taste of Asia Group, a group of restaurants.— Jason Kenney April 30, 2019Rick Wilson — Minister of Indigenous Relations Aheer is the deputy leader of the United Conservative Party and most recently served as the critic for children’s services and status of women. She was first elected in the 2015 election as a Wildrose member of the legislative assembly. While she backed Brian Jean during the UCP leadership vote, Kenney chose her as deputy leader. She describes herself as a centrist conservative. She has also run several businesses, including as an aerobics instructor and the CEO of an investment business.
