“It came from a place of pure helplessness,” Hong said. “It’s difficult to know how best to support the black community right now.”

Without a lot of money to donate to Kickstarter or GoFundMe efforts, Hong said she used her available skill set and resources to start the list. With the help of some crowdsourcing, she put together a list of dozens of businesses in the region. “This is a way to put money directly into businesses that are owned by black people,” she said. “It’s important to support these businesses every day — not just this week or until all this is over — every single day.”at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw mall, met several customers who said they were there specifically to patronize a black-owned business. Prince, who struggled for years to turn her hot chicken pop-up into a bricks-and-mortar restaurant, opened Hotville last year.
