Ohio State moved to 11-0 with a 43-30 win over Maryland. Here's what we learned about the Buckeyes from their performance Saturday.
? Will Miyan Williams? Will TreVeyon Henderson or Matthew Jones? Will C.J. Stroud be able to walk on Sunday after getting banged up for the first time all season?Want to keep up with Ohio State? Don't miss a single Buckeyes story. Get a great deal by subscribing to the Dispatch today atDallan Hayden's ball security should be appreciated. Pressed into duty again because of injuries to Williams and Henderson, Hayden rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns.
Part of his success is that he actually hits the holes and runs forward. Henderson and Williams too often like to run laterally, looking for the home run. Hayden stays within himself and takes the yards that are there. He doesn't appear overly hungry for the highlight play, and the result is he moves the chains. It's been the storyline of the season for the Buckeyes.
Stroud was flushed from the pocket and hobbled left and threw incomplete. Seemed like a good time to flex some muscles against another finesse team. The Buckeyes limp into the Michigan game partly because of key players hitting continued setbacks from injury. It appears that Jaxon Smith-Njigba returned too soon, reinjuring his hamstring at least once.
If Michigan was always the focus and Hayden has proven to be reliable, it seems to make sense to have kept Henderson on the shelf and healing as much as possible so he could be unleashed in the game of the year.
