Prices at the Pumps - March 28, 2024 #saltwire #energymarkets #pricesatthepumps #gaspricesSYDNEY, N.S. — The 2024 NSITE'N Tourism Conference & Mawiomi kicked off with a celebration of Indigenous culture and achievement, showcasing the remarkable contributions of individuals and businesses to the tourism landscape in Nova Scotia.
Membertou's Kelly Paul, a Hospitality and Tourism Management student at Cape Breton University and a tourism development officer with NSITE'N, was one of two Youth Ambassador Award recipients alongside fellow CBU Hospitality and Tourism student Matthew Patles. Paul says she was caught off guard when she heard her name called to accept the award.
"It's not just a personal achievement; it's a milestone marking all the support from my community, mentors, family and friends. It inspired me to keep working hard, not only on myself and my personal goals but also helping communities," she said."It gives me a huge sense of pride and a new sense of belonging. Being recognized for something I've wanted to do for a long time really means a lot to me. I am super thankful to have that honour.
Sylliboy says Joe would be dancing if she knew her people still remember her this way, and part of Sylliboy thinks her mother did. "It's different accepting something on someone's behalf, especially posthumously. They can't send notes or let you know what they would want you to say or who they would want you to thank. You just kind of have to go off what you know and remember of them; you want to be true to their spirit," said Cremo."I'm definitely proud. It always feels good for him to get recognition for his work because his work influences our whole family.
