I’ve said many times that the toughest letters for me to answer are from young people who are stuck in unhealthy living environments. Your situation—the parts about your food and the sister but also about your father’s really cruel and inappropriate punishment—definitely falls into that category. You do owe an apology for the “fat stupid pig” insult and, more broadly, you don’t want to be the kind of person who sinks to the level of screaming at people . You’ll feel better and more in control if you don’t lash out in that way.
It would go a long way if you occasionally bought a small amount extra of the same food you keep stashed away to share with your family .I’ve had a close male friend that I’ve been secretly in love with for years. We have almost always lived in different cities and frankly, our lifestyles are fairly different to the point that I had all but discarded the idea that we could ever be in a romantic relationship.
