Port Alberni, Lake Cowichan and Gold River will be some of the hot spots this week with forecast highs of 34 C.

Port Alberni is one of the usual hot spots when heat hits Vancouver Island, and Sunday was no different as afternoon temperatures reached 34 by dinnertime.“I don’t like it that much, but I like going for swims, but yeah, we’re getting pretty used to it,” said Joanna Stangowitz, who was cooling off with her daughter in the Somass River.

“A ridge of high pressure has moved up from the south and brought a warm air mass to the province, and that’s where we’re seeing temperatures anywhere from 8 to 10 or even 12 degrees above normal for this time of year,” Environment Canada Meteorologist Lisa Erven told CHEK News Sunday.Sign up for the CHEK Now daily email newsletter to get breaking news and the day's top stories sent to your email.Temperatures across Vancouver Island are expected to cool down only slightly by week’s end.
