People lay on the beach of Harrison Lake on a hot and sunny summer day in Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. on Friday July 5, 2024.

Much of B.C. is under a heat warning, continuing a trend of prolonged hot weather, which has led more than 200 people to call paramedics.People catch some rays on Harrison Lake in Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. There have been several heat waves throughout the province this summer. Heat warnings have been forecast for most of B.C. this weekend, continuing a trend of prolonged hot weather that has led people to make more than 200 calls to paramedics this month.

Meteorologists warn the prolonged extreme heat is likely to exacerbate the risk of wildfire in the province, with relief not expected for a few days."We expect the heat warnings may end for most regions on Tuesday, but the temperatures will still be above normal," said Philippe-Alain Bergeron, an Environment Canada meteorologist.

Persistent hot and dry conditions have resulted in heat warnings for much of the province, including a large portion of the Interior. Nearly all of the province is under a "high" wildfire risk, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service, as extreme heat adds to sustained drought conditions.
