The east coast of Vancouver Island is under another heat warning, with daytime highs expected to be near 29°C, according to Environment Canada.
Environment Canada issued the warning for the east Island due to daytime highs near 29 degrees, with overnight lows in the high teens.for Vancouver Island when there is expected to be two or more consecutive days with daytime highs of 29°C or warmer, with nighttime temperatures reaching a low of 16°C or warmer.
High temperatures come with a risk for heat exhaustion or other heat-related illnesses, but the risks are more serious for seniors, people who live alone, people with pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or respiratory disease, people with mental illness such as schizophrenia, depression, or anxiety, people with substance use disorders, people with limited mobility.
Early signs of heat illness include feeling unwell, fatigue, thirst, headache and unusually dark urine. If those symptoms present, you are advised to act because they can rapidly turn into life-threatening emergencies. To prevent heat-related illness, you are advised to drink plenty of water regularly, not wait to be thirsty.
