Diagnosed with mucopolysaccharidosis, a rare disease affecting his bones and other systems, Simon has faced countless surgeries — but his bond with Provorov has been a bright spot in his journey. Earlier this year in February, Simon reconnected with his hockey hero when the Columbus Blue Jackets played in Vancouver. Simon spent the day with Provorov, attending team meetings, driving players to the rink, and even announcing the starting lineup in the dressing room. The heartwarming moment, captured on video, showed Simon beaming as he received cheers from the players.In June, CHEK’s Tess van Straaten shone the spotlight on a group of heroes who were just what the doctor ordered for sick children in Victoria. volunteer group, about 300 members strong, travel to the Victoria General Hospital pediatrics ward with their special powers of brightening spirits and spreading joy. Captain America, Superman, Superwoman, and Batgirl are just a few of the caped crusaders who bring smiles to the kids in hospital and also raise money for local charities. “I just wanted to do some good in the world.
