During a Dec. 7 ultrasound, Taylor observed a smaller-than-expected fetal pole and no heartbeat. She told Crockett she suspected she had had a miscarriage. The doctor ordered a blood test to check her hormone levels.

“He said ‘you’ve got a healthy 12-week-old baby in here,’ ” Crockett recalls. She remembers a wave of conflicting emotions.But she worried about the previous weeks operating under the assumption she was not pregnant, having wine over Christmas and foods not recommended during pregnancy.Article content
The college’s investigative committee was critical of Taylor, saying that while Crockett’s health challenges were unusual, Taylor should have requested a subsequent transabdominal ultrasound or asked for a second opinion from a colleague.
