Health Canada said in a statement that it has determined that the Moderna SPIKEVAX COVID-19 vaccine targeting the Omicron XBB.1.5 variant meets the department’s stringent safety, efficacy and quality requirements. The announcement comes as COVID-19 activity indicators continue to increase, the department said on its website, noting that the nation saw a spike in the number of hospitalizations during the first week of September.
It said those who have not received a vaccine or a booster dose within the last six months should do so. Anyone aged five years and older should receive one dose of the Moderna vaccine, regardless of their COVID-19 vaccine history, the department said.
