Schools in central Texas are struggling with funding, and it’s often leaving kids without essential school supplies . To help, every year the steps up to meet the need to make sure that thousands of Texas students start the school year off right., with the support of the City of Austin ’s "We All Belong" initiative, held its 12th annual School Supplies Packing event. It aims to foster community unity and provide critical resources.
“It really brings a pride and joy and sense of satisfaction to me, said Pankil Matalia, operations director at HC4A. “Growing up back in India, my mom and dad taught me what is giving back to community means. I participated in similar events back in India, where we were giving food supplies, so who knew destiny that 35 years later, I’d be standing here in the U.S. as a citizen of this country and to be part of this proud moment, where we’re doing a very similar exercise.
HC4A was able to raise over $40,000 from its “Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt" fundraiser in April. Because of that fundraiser, the organization was able to provide school supplies for more than 1,500 homeless students.
