The Cold War thriller, which was nominated for the first Berlinale TV Series Award, spotlights a week in the life of Victor Godeanu. Victor is the right-hand man and closest advisor to Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu but he is also a secret agent for the KGB, and must escape Romania and Ceaușescu before his cover is blown. With only one shot at staying alive, he uses a diplomatic trip to Germany as a springboard to the States.
Created by Adina Sădeanu and Kirsten Peters, the six-parter was the winner of HBO’s national screenwriting competition in Romania. It also stars Svenja Jung and Parker Sawyers. Director is Christopher Smith with cinematography by Ben Wheeler BSC and Ádám Fillenz HCA . Antony Root and Johnathan Young are executive producers for HBO Max, with Ioanina Pavel as creative producer. Anke Greifeneder is the EP for Warner TV Serie.
