The store’s new owners are hoping someone finds the 30 to 40 pieces of Kalevala jewelry that was taken early Tuesday morning.
THUNDER BAY – Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service are investigating a break in at Finnport Fine Finnish Gifts that occurred around 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday, resulting in the theft of 30 to 40 pieces of jewelry worth thousands of dollars.
The break in happened when someone smashed the Bay Street store’s picture window and also broke the glass door. The new owners of Finnport, who took possession on Feb. 1, are hoping to re-open later this week if possible. Sam Leppanen is asking anyone who sees Kalevala jewelry for sale to contact the Thunder Bay Police Service.
“Kalevala jewelry is one of a kind. It’s made in Finland. If you see it being pawned off on Facebook marketplace or pawn shops – it's definitely worth letting the police know that,” he said, adding that the items come in a green box.“The busier times come in the summer, but it won’t take that long. The benefit with Finnport is all of our products are online.” Anyone with information can contact the Thunder Bay Police Service's non-emergency line at 684-1200.
