“One year ago, on this stage, I promised we would be debt free in 2023. We have accomplished that!” she said.
She said the city made its final $8.3 million payment in March to AMBAC Assurance, wiping away a debt which still remained at $26 million in 2021.
“In the process, we saved City of Harrisburg taxpayers millions of dollars,” Williams added. “With those funds, we plan to invest it directly into the city’s growth: infrastructure projects, safer roads, more secure neighborhoods, and modernized parks.”due to Harrisburg’s strong financial standing, which includes balanced budgets and annual surpluses.
“We just presented our five-year financial plan to the city’s Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority,” she said.She also expounded on working with city council to pass legislation to earmark more thanfunds on projects, adding that it wasn’t the easiest thing to do. With the funds, she said the city will be able to build more affordable housing for low-to-moderate income residents, including seniors – add a safe, modern pool, provide resources for individuals to end unsheltered homelessness and give youth “better access” to career opportunities.redesign four of the city parks
