“I received messages stating that I should not be around children, that I am woke, that I am spineless, that I disregard the Constitution, that I worship Satan, that I should be ashamed to call myself a mother, that the lessons that I teach my children should be called into question, that my two small children and I should burn in hell. These messages continued throughout the week on my personal social media.
Vlasaty elaborated that the board policy cited in her about-face on the club’s permission to use district facilities clearly states that in advertising or promoting activities held at school facilities, individuals and groups shall clearly communicate the activities are not sponsored by the school district.
A parent who spoke at Tuesday night’s meeting said she had applied for the club to use district facilities. She argued that the signup sheet that was circulated did say it was not an activity of the school district. She was met with applause, as were most of a handful of speakers who weighed in during the school board meeting.
One called on Vlasaty to resign; another thanked Vlasaty for her service. A mother said parents have enough on their plate to focus on without these kind of distractions, while one commenter argued all religion should be kept out of school.
