Palestinian militant group Hamas announced the suspension of Israeli hostage releases, citing Israeli breaches of the ceasefire agreement. The decision comes amid rising concerns about the fragile truce, with Hamas accusing Israel of hindering Palestinian returns to northern Gaza, engaging in military actions against Gazans, and obstructing aid entry. Israeli officials condemned Hamas's move as a ceasefire violation and vowed to defend Israeli communities. Meanwhile, Egyptian and Qatari mediators fear a potential breakdown of the agreement, while families of the hostages and Israeli veterans urge adherence to the deal.
Palestinian militant group Hamas announced on Monday it would stop releasing Israel i hostages until further notice over what it said were Israel i violations of the ceasefire agreement.
The group's military wing spokesperson Abu Ubaida said that since the ceasefire came into effect on Jan. 19, Israel had delayed allowing displaced Palestinians from returning to northern Gaza, targeted Gazans with military shelling and gunfire and had stopped relief materials from entering the territory.
Two Egyptian security sources told Reuters on Monday mediators fear a breakdown of the ceasefire agreement. Qatar and Egypt brokered the deal alongside the United States. In turn, Israel has accused Hamas of not respecting the order in which the hostages were to be released and of orchestrating abusive public displays before large crowds when they have been handed over to the Red Cross.
