The ‘halo nail’ trend is making a comeback this summer thanks to its edgy, head-turning design that still feels grown-up and modern. The graphic nature of this manicure design makes it feel intentional and sharp.
‘It’s like a French manicure and a reverse French combined. You get a curved arc of colour following the cuticle at the base, mirrored by a matching tip at the free edge, with a contrasting centre in between,’ explains The Gel Bottle’s Daisy Kalnina. The result is a neat oval frame of colour around the nail – like a halo. It instantly makes the nail look longer.
‘It’s the sweet spot between minimal and maximalist,’ shares Kalnina. ‘The design is more considered than a block colour, less chaotic than full nail art and a a bit more playful than a classic French tip. That contrast between a cool sheer centre and a vivid halo is genuinely flattering on every skin tone; it catches the light the way summer skin does.
’If a defined oval feels too stark for you, the ‘aura’ version is significantly softer and easy to wear. I’m still glad I got one—but why was I expected to raw-dog the insertion with a couple of Advil and vibes?
