Company that got its start as a kombucha maker already has contracts with major retailers across North America
Brothers John, left, and Ryan Maclellan, owners of Cove Drinks in Halifax, have launched a line of sugar-free sodas. They made initial shipments of 100,000 cans of their sodas to eastern Canada Costco stores this week, to Sobeys last October and Loblaws in January, and a deal with Walmart is on the horizon., might make those deliveries look like a drop in the bucket when shipments begin to Costco California in April.
“They’re both probiotic and gut-healthy; the difference is one can be on a shelf and one has to be in the fridge.”are sold as single units in grocery stores but will go by the case at Costco. “The fact that they’re organic makes them more expensive. Buying natural things is just always more expensive than artificial things. Our price is a little higher because of that.
“We were already set up as a vendor with a lot of these so it was a snap of a finger and we’re on the shelf, albeit after three to six months.” “We’re definitely committed to staying here. We’ve got a team of 10 here, soon to be 12, and the home base is going to stay in Halifax.”“They were interested because we already had the kombucha in there, selling in coolers. This was a different buyer but they knew us, knew we had a good reputation,” he said.
