City Street Maintenance Manager Paul VanLandingham said the hole was about the size of a loaf of bread when his crews first responded this morning.
Anna Bosin peers into a section of Anchorage’s 15th Avenue where municipal street crews had excavated to see what caused a sinkhole on April 6, 2023. Bosin said her lunch walk was a lot nicer with the street closed.
Anchorage Street Maintenance crews shut down 15th Avenue between Orca Street and Lake Otis Parkway to inspect and repair it. Manager Paul VanLandingham said he thinks repairs will be done and the street will reopen around 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. this Friday. “It’s just aged, just one of those things,” he said. “A lot of this infrastructure around town, you know, starting to show its wear and tear, age, and this is just one that popped up on us.”
