It’s hard to see how Smith’s infraction rises to the level of a criminal charges — Trudeau’s worse infractions haven’t led to any charges.
And Wilson-Raybould had the power to do what Trudeau was cajoling her to do — cut a deal with the Liberal-friendly, Quebec company. Shandro maintained all along he couldn’t do what Smith wanted — grant clemency to COVID-defying preachers and protesters.
Trudeau and Smith, too, were both found guilty of violating their respective government’s ethics codes. On Tuesday, the same day Smith made her apology, NDP Leader Rachel Notley and former Social Services Minister Irfan Sabir rejected Smith’s statement and co-signed a letter to the RCMP asking the Mounties to investigate whether Smith should be charged criminally for her ethics breach.Article content
Earlier this week, Canadians were told the Mounties were still investigating Trudeau’s actions in the SNC-Lavalin affair. The RCMP used the “ongoing investigation” as an excuse for not fulfilling an access-to-information request for documents from the Lavalin case.
