A future UCP government will raise no taxes on individuals or corporations without the permission of voters in the form of a plebiscite.
The Taxpayer Protection Act already forbids the imposition of a provincial sales tax without voters approving one by popular vote. If re-elected, the UCP would expand the TPA to include public votes before personal and corporate tax increases, too.Article content
But I’m OK with the onus switching to governments and away from taxpayers. If governments want a bigger slice of tax pie, make them justify it. Convince us voters there are no spending cuts that could make first, no waste in the bureaucracy that could be trimmed. The UCP have also promised to cut personal income taxes by $1 billion — a seven per cent reduction — and create a new lower income tax bracket for Albertans who earn up to $60,000 per year; eight per cent instead of the current 10.Article contentKeeping corporate taxes at the current eight per cent , along with all of the personal tax benefits outlined above, should re-establish the Alberta Advantage, strengthen the provincial economy and see workers from all over Canada streaming in, again.
