In November, Guilbeault announced in Glasgow during the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference — commonly known as COP26 — that he would be hopping on Via Rail trains in the upcoming months to tour the country and discuss climate change.
Guilbeault’s office confirmed Tuesday that the minister’s ambitious early-2022 train tour plan didn’t happen in part because of the sixth COVID-19 wave, but also because Via Rail simply was not offering the required service levels to make it possible.Article content In January, Via Rail announced that it was significantly reducing train frequencies on its most popular line connecting Quebec City and Windsor due to reduced travel caused by the “rapid spreading of the Omicron Variant,” it said in a statement.
