Guerrero Jr. suffers Grade 1 oblique strain; will miss about 3 weeks. MORE:
MLB: Blue Jays 8, Phillies 7Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will miss about three weeks with a Grade 1 left oblique strain, the Toronto Blue JaysThe injury was suffered in Friday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates where he went 0-for-3 with a walk. He did not play on Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The timeline surrounding Guerrero Jr.’s injury means he should be ready to return sometime in early April, knocking him out of the team's exhibition series with the Milwaukee Brewers in Montreal. The injury likely means the service time issue surrounding the 19-year-old phenom will take care of itself because it’s unlikely he will be ready for big league action by mid-April anyway. If the Jays brought him north for Opening Day rather than wait until the middle of the month, the team would lose an extra year of control.
While the Blue Jays made no official announcement on where Guerrero Jr. will start his season, the organization has been hinting at him starting the season in the minors all winter. Now, with the injury, it looks almost certain he isn't with the team to start the season. The Jays will open the season on March 28 at home against the Detroit Tigers.
