When it rains, it pours.
After the Guardians were held hitless in Tuesday’s loss to Astros ace Framber Valdez, infielder Andrés Giménez wasted little time coming up with Cleveland’s first hit of the game.
Giménez thought Abreu had caught the ball before it hit the dirt and was trying to get back to first base, giving Abreu enough time to run him down and apply the tag. Rocchio, added to the roster before the game following the trade of Josh Bell to Miami on Tuesday, reached base twice, while Gonzalez registered his sixth career game with at least three hits.
