“There is some activity, but it’s only happening between the front office and my agent,” said Rosario, through interpreter Agustin Rivero. “It’s something that is out of my control at this time.”
Last year Ramirez suggested to Chris Antonetti, president of baseball operations, that he should give Rosario an extension. Ramirez even said that he’d use part of his $171 million contract to sign Rosario.“He’s the best,” said Rosario. “His energy not only helps me, but it helps the whole team. That feeling makes me player better. It’s not only what he does as a player, but as a teammate.”
In some negotiations involving extensions, the player sets opening day as a deadline. After that negotiations end.“I don’t put a hard deadline on things,” said Rosario. “I’m a mature guy. I know how things are. I can’t just say if it’s not by this day, then it’s done.Rosario said the Guardians reached out to his representatives about the possibility of an extension.
The Guardians, the youngest team in the big leagues last year, has a roster full of extension candidates. Steven Kwan, Triston McKenzie, Gimenez and Shane Bieber are among them.
