ICYMI: The Guardians capped the July 4th holiday with some fireworks of their own, as David Fry delivered a walk-off hit in the 10th to give Cleveland a 6-5 win.
The defensive play of the game belonged to center fielder Myles Straw, who caught Eddie Rosario’s fly ball in the 10th and threw a strike to Fry at home Fry to get Sam Hilliard, the automatic runner, for an inning-ending double play. Fry, who started the game in right field, moved to catcher in the eighth inning.“That was an unbelievable play all the way around,” said manager Terry Francona.
The homer ended Allard’s night. He allowed three runs on four hits in five innings. It was just his second start of the season after opening the year on the injured list with a strained right oblique muscle. Bieber retired the leadoff hitter, but then watched five straight Braves reach base.
Austin Riley and Matt Olson kept the line moving with a single and a walk. Travis d’Arnaud followed with a single to left on Bieber’s 2-2 pitch to make it 3-2. Bieber finally recorded the second out of the inning when Marcell Ozuna flied out to left, but Eddie Rosario, the former Cleveland outfielder, doubled to left for a 4-2 lead.Bieber allowed four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings.
