A group of schools in West Lancashire will close for two days
Secondary schools run by the Endeavour Learning Trust academy chain have switched to remote learning today and tomorrow with temperatures set to hit almost unprecedented levels and warnings in place over unessential travel. Those affected are Ormskirk School and Sixth Form College, Burscough Priory Academy, and Tarleton Academy.
The letter, from head of school John Burnham, stated: “You may be aware that the Met Office has issued its first ever Red warning for exceptional heat for the start of next week. This means we will experience an exceptionally hot spell over the two days which will impact on people and infrastructure meaning there should be substantial changes in working practices and daily routines.
It goes on to list guidance such as keeping kids indoors all day, a need for vulnerable children to stay away, and closing certain classrooms which are too hot. The letter continues: “Although we can implement many of the measures outlined above, we are extremely concerned that temperatures around the school and within classrooms in particular will not be conducive to productive learning and may begin to compromise the health and safety of students and staff.
