Milltown Mel, a popular weather-predicting groundhog, died before the 2022 Groundhog Day ceremony, and efforts to replace him have hit a snag.
, forcing the town to cancel its longtime traditional ceremony aimed at determining whether the Garden State will have an extended winter or an early spring.
However, an unspecified state regulation is preventing the new Milltown Mel from taking part in this year’s festivities, according to the event organizers. So for the second consecutive year, the borough won’t be having a Groundhog Day ceremony.
