in the visual for the song "Violence." In fact, the video that dropped on Thursday morning opens with the singer studying Sun Tzu's ancient Chinese military playbook, perhaps taking into mind the treatise's memorable advice: "all warfare is based on deception."
The pulsing, ethereal track credited to Grimes and EDM producer I_o comes to life in the clip directed by the singer and slated for her upcomingalbum It unfolds with Grimes reading the war manual on a set filled with women lounging in two-piece athletic gear and lingerie on a stage filled with Greek architectural elements.
Changing out of the clinging dress with a flowing white cape, Grimes reappears in a black skirt and matching bra with a red face mask to work out some robotic dance moves, including pointing gun fingers at the camera in time to the song's throbbing rhythm track. With her backup dancers armed with swords and spears, Grimes emotes to the camera amid flashes of a dancer in a white-winged mask doing a sensual battle dance.
