When it finally sold for $604,800, it smashed the previous record holder, which belonged to Diana's black off-the-shoulder gown. The late royal's deep-purple velvet gown was designed by her longtime fashion collaborator, British dressmaker Victor Edelstein, according to the report.Following her death, it was sold off at a charity auction for $24,150.Proceeds from that auction raised over $3 million for AIDS and cancer charities, according to the report.
