The union indicated that talks had resumed and that it hoped to bargain throughout the weekend in order to reach a deal.

PSAC launched the strike last week after the parties failed to come to an agreement by the union’s deadline of 9 p.m. last Tuesday night.

Going into bargaining, PSAC called for 4.5 per cent annual wage increases for Treasury Board members. For CRA members, the union called for annual wage increases of 4.5 per cent, eight per cent and eight per cent again during a three-year contract, as well as a one-time wage adjustment of nine per cent to account for a long-standing wage imbalance with Canada Border Services Agency employees.

When asked by reporters Wednesday whether the union would accept the nine per cent offer, even if the government opened up on everything else, Aylward said “no, next question.”
