JOHN'S, N.L. — The provincial government announced Wednesday, Sept. 27, it has awarded a contract valued at about $120,000 to an Ontario-based company to review an expansion to Memorial University’s doctor of medicine undergraduate program.
The contract has been awarded to Spindle Strategy Corp. The review will include requirements such as infrastructure, potential building expansion, staffing, resources and equipment. A news release notes the expansion will help support more medical learners to receive a high-quality medical education at Memorial University and gain valuable clinical experience to attract them to practise in the province upon completion of their training.
“Students who study and complete their medical education in their home province have a higher rate of staying and practising in that province,” said Health Minister Tom Osborne. “By providing an opportunity for more students from Newfoundland and Labrador to learn and train here in the province, we’re increasing the likelihood that they stay here to practise.”
