A bicycle safety bill that had wide support among lawmakers of both parties, got derailed at the governor’s desk Thursday in the partisan fight over Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner.
“continues the General Assembly’s politicization of crime and supporting local control until they disagree with local policies.” The original bill would have amended the state’s vehicle code to allow vehicles to park more than 12 inches from the curb. The bill was named Emily’s and Sarah’s Law for two women - Emily Fredericks of Philadelphia and Susan Hicks of Pittsburgh - who lost their lives cycling to work.
