Designed after Pokemon cards and filled with San Antonio spirit, Fiestamon are the first hit Fiesta medals of the year.
"It's love of Fiesta makes this Fiestamon joyful, full of viva spirit and ready to party," the card's description reads. The"Fiestamon," a Snorlax, stands in front of the Alamo and has the attacks"Cascarón Crush" and"Confetti Kick." Each of the Fiestamon also have 210 hit points in honor of the city's ZIP code., a shop filled with items inspired by San Antonio, including Fiesta medals, T-shirts and stickers.
"Every year my children design a medal after something they're interested in, this year they wanted to do a blind bag," Heath said."They love Pokemon, specifically the card game, so they wanted these characters around San Antonio."The kids play the card game at the comic book store Alien Worlds, Heath added, and he credits the game with helping to improve his son's reading and math abilities.
However, the cards are already sold out, Heath noted, and the store"sold out so fast." Heath said the card posted at 4 p.m. Friday, March 17, and was sold out by Wednesday, March 22. "I am working really hard to make more; I've been contacting manufacturers," Heath said."Those participating in Fiesta want them, not just the hardcore medal collectors but normal folks as well. I'm crossing my fingers I can get them in in time."
Heath credits the blind bag concept, where people purchasing the cards don't know which they'll get, for helping to sell the cards out, as well as the fact that the Fiestamon cards are just so infused with the spirit of San Antonio.
