Fans and members of the public can pay their respects at a visitation for Gordon Lightfoot being held this Sunday in Orillia, Ont., the legendary folk icon’s birthplace and hometown.
Lightfoot, 84,. In his public obituary, family members write that he is remembered as “a national treasure,” as “his songs have become part of the Canadian cultural fabric.”
The public is invited to attend St. Paul’s United Church from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 62 Peter St. N. in Orillia. Donations to the United Way will be collected by the Mundell Funeral Home in Orillia. Messages of condolences can be submitted“He is survived by his cherished wife Kim Lightfoot, children Fred, Ingrid, Eric, Galen, Miles and Meredith, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren,” reads the obituary on the Mundell Funeral Home website.. He performed 170 concerts at Massey in his lifetime. The singer told The Canadian Press in 2018 he had “strong affinity” for the venue.
