.sunlorrie: Ford's path to victory is to win over Trudeau voters
If he succeeds, it will be in large part because of Trudeau’s political and economic support, which would have been inconceivable in 2018 when Ford won his first election promising to be Trudeau’s worst nightmare. As Ontario’s Financial Accountability Officer Peter Weltman recently reported, prior to the release of Ford’s provincial budget last Thursday:
When Ford and Trudeau jointly announced their child care deal March 28, in which Ontario will receive $13.2 billion over six years from the feds, it was just their latest political love-in. When Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act in February to disperse the Freedom Convoy in Ottawa protesting federal and provincial pandemic mandates, Ford was one of only three premiers to publicly support him.
During last summer’s federal election, Ford’s office ordered his cabinet ministers not to campaign on behalf of the federal Conservatives against Trudeau and the Liberals.
