Belfast Live previously reported that Translink had paid out more than £86,000 for repairs following attacks on the service

The union which represents more than half the entire Translink workforce and the overwhelming majority of frontline workers on the Glider service have spoken out after the number of prosecutions resulting from attacks on the service have been revealed.

These latest figures come after Belfast Live reported earlier this week that Translink have spent more than £86,000 on repairs following attacks on the service. "Anti-social behaviour is a societal issue for many frontline public sector, retail and hospitality workers, and we take all incidents extremely seriously whether this is verbal or physical abuse against our employees, passengers or property."

"We work closely with the PSNI, including their neighbourhood teams and their Safe Transport Team and encourage individuals to report incidents either to Translink, Crimestoppers or PSNI so we can take preventative measures and the strongest penalties are brought against offenders. Unite Regional Officer with responsibility for the union’s members on the Glider, Albert Hewitt said: “Since it was launched, the success and huge uptake of the Glider service has confirmed that investment in expanding and improving public transport services delivers hugely for our economy and our society.
