Makenzie Black's early goal holds up in Kingwood's win over Clear Creek
Kingwood dodged bullets for most of Monday night’s Class 6A area girls soccer matchup with Clear Creek, but the one shot it fired early hit the mark for the only offense the Lady Mustangs would need.
The victory propels Kingwood into a third-round matchup with either Atascocita or Clear Springs later this week.“All I know is that I was running toward the ball, and I said 'I think I’ve got it,'” the sophomore forward said. “Then I saw it pop up out of nowhere. “I felt like we controlled most of both halves. They got the one fluke in the beginning, but I’m proud of my team for staying with it.”
Lady Wildcats' Chloe Vargas just missed high on a follow shot in the first half, and a crucial kick save by Knigin in the 60“Abby made a huge save there or it would have probably gone to overtime,” Kingwood head coach Pres Holcomb said.
