“She was located at 1:40 a.m., she was found on the tracks. Paramedics did attend, there were no injuries and she was reunited with her mother,” Toronto Police Const. Laura Brabant said, adding, “there will be no criminal charges.”
TTC media relations spokesman Stuart Green praised a sharp-eyed conductor who saw her on the tracks in front of the subway car for the positive outcome. “The train was coming westbound out of Warden station — it was not in service,” said Green. “It was going back to the Greenwood Yard for the night. The operator, who must have been eagle-eyed, spotted this child walking along the boards that cover the 600 volt power rail, was able to stop the train, get the child onto the train, and then back the train up into Warden station so they could offload her and hand her over to police so she could be reunited with her family.
Really quite heads-up work by our operator and this could have ended up tragically in a couple of ways and we’re really thankful that it didn’t.”“We pulled the video from the station, there’s no sign of the child entering the station,” said Green. “The collector didn’t see her enter. And we did a check of all the fencing last night and it looked OK. We’ve gone out again just to make sure in the light of day that we didn’t miss anything.”At the scene, the girl’s mother told the Sun her daughter has autism and a propensity for escaping their home, even with multiple locks on the doors.
