Vancouver Giants head to Spokane with a 2-0 lead in best-of-seven WHL West Conference finals
The Vancouver Giants forward unit of Jared Dmytriw, Owen Hardy and Dawson Holt have been so good in the playoffs that they merit a moniker.
Vancouver had trailed 2-0 after two periods on Saturday, much to the chagrin of the home crowd of 4,746.The Giants have won eight straight in the post-season, dating back to Game 4 of the first round against the Seattle Thunderbirds. Vancouver , who won the Western Conference regular season banner, went on to defeat the wild card Thunderbirds in six games before sweeping the fifth-place Victoria Royals to set up this meeting with the Chiefs.
That was followed by Holt finding Dmytriw cruising through slot. Dmytriw snapped a shot past Brkin at 7:33 to make it 3-2. That gave Dmytriw, the Vancouver team captain and one of the team’s three over-agers, six goals in these playoffs. That hurtsGiving up a goal in the final minute of a period is one of hockey’s great bugaboos. So is allowing one in the first minute and the Giants managed to do both on Saturday night.
