Learn Indian classical dance form Kathak at this event hosted by Burnaby Arts Council.

Bringing rhythm, grace, sensuality and strength together with intricate footwork and hand gestures, the classical dance form, Kathak, is a storytelling art packed with pure elegance.

To celebrate International Women's Week, Edmonton-based Hall of Fame artist and classical Indian dance choreographer Usha Gupta is coming to Burnaby's Deer Lake Gallery on Friday, March 17 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. to offer a dance workshop for Metro Vancouver residents. Organized by the Burnaby Arts Council, the workshop follows a series of contemporary Kathak performances last year by Gupta's dance group at the Firehall Arts Centre.

With the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, the dance group is touring all across Canada this year, offering lessons in expressive art philosophy, Kathak footwork and rhythmic patterns with body movements. Participants are requested to bring a bottle of water, a hand towel and an energy snack for the workshop. Space is limited and ticket sales end soon, so register early if you’d like the chance to learn an Indian classical dance form.Where: Deer Lake Gallery
