Bender’s Brat Haus in Aurora, known for its German fare and signature house-made sausages, has closed. The restaurant’s last day was Aug. 31 after 46 years in business, owner Jordan McCarty confirmed to The Denver Post.

According to McCarty, who purchased the business from its original owner, Chuck Bender, in 1996, the timing was simply right. Her lease at 700 S. Buckley Road was up and she’s preparing to welcome her third child. “It’s probably the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make and I’m sad to see it go, but I’m nine months pregnant with my third kiddo,” McCarty said. “This one is a little later in life than my others. I just wanted to be a mom for a little bit.”

The COVID-19 pandemic, of course, was also taxing, but Bender’s never closed and retained its staff throughout, McCarty said.Instead, McCarty said when she had her first two children, she could see the restaurant suffer slightly without her onsite.
