Alan Turing, credited by many as the father of modern computing, will be featured on the £50 note starting in 2021, the Bank of England said Monday.“As the father of computer science and artificial intelligence, as well as war hero, Alan Turing’s contributions were far-ranging and pathbreaking,” the bank's governor, Mark Carney, said in a statement.
Turing’s work on codebreaking was instrumental in the Allied victory in World War II, and he was made an officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1945. However, he was convicted of gross indecency in 1952 for sexual relations with another man and avoided prison by accepting chemical castration.
