Labour Day is an annual recognition of the worker, and the issues that matter most to them. The gathering is hosted by the Sudbury and District Labour Council

In Sudbury, workers, unions and community leaders will gather at Morel Park Monday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m. to celebrate working people and to highlight the issues that matter most to them. .“Canada is in the midst of an affordability crisis and workers are the solution,” said Jessica Montgomery, president of the Sudbury and District Labour Council. “It’s up to us to come together in solidarity and demand better from our decision-makers. Corporate greed has driven our economy for far too long.

The pandemic has renewed workers’ resolve, pushing them to demand better pay, improved working conditions and benefits, notes a release from the labour council, and it states that Canada’s unions are building on this momentum by encouraging workers to unionize and stand up to their employers with one strong, collective voice, she added.

“Labour Day is an opportunity for us to be together in celebration, but also to discuss the things that matter most to workers,” said Montgomery. “Community and solidarity are important to union members, and we’re happy to be able to welcome everyone to this event once again. We encourage members to bring a friend, a family member, a neighbour or even an un-engaged coworker to the event. Let them see the amazing community of workers we have built and show them the strength of union solidarity.
