Billionaire Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates raised over $1 billion for green technologies as part of the climate change pledge
The funds will be used to make eco-friendly technologies more affordable to help build a net-zero economy by 2050, said Breakthrough Energy in a“Avoiding a climate disaster will require a new industrial revolution,” Gates said in a statement. “Half the technology needed to get to zero emissions either doesn’t exist yet or is too expensive for much of the world to afford.
In 2016, Gates launched the $1 billion Breakthrough Energy Ventures fund that now has the backing of more than 25 investors to develop affordable clean energy.
