A Gary man is facing multiple charges after sexually assaulting a teen girl.
Manuel Sotelo, Sr., 38, of Gary, was charged Oct. 20 with three counts of rape, one count of criminal confinement, dissemination of matter harmful to minors and sexual battery. He is being held without bail until Nov. 7, when it will be reset to $10,000 cash surety. His next court appearance is Nov. 1 before Judge Samuel Cappas. The assaults happened on Oct. 14 and 17 on the 2900 block of W. Ridge Road, according to a criminal affidavit.
Sotelo messaged her. After she responded she was in the shower, he came into the bathroom naked, refusing to leave. “I was completely confused and I froze,” the victim said. Sotelo repeatedly bit the girl, then sexually assaulted her, according to the affidavit. She reported the assault to the school nurse. Court records allege the school counselor kept the girl in her office and didn’t tell the school police officer. The victim reported Sotelo showed her pornography on Oct.
