Shane Pinto has taken a step in the right direction to suiting up for the Ottawa Senators.
The restricted free agent centre, who had been skating with a team at his home in Franklin, N.Y., for the past month, landed in Ottawa on Sunday and has been training at the Bell Sensplex since arriving in town.
“Pierre Dorion continues to grind to create cap space for Shane Pinto,” TSN Insider Darren Dreger posted on Wednesday morning. “Both the Pinto camp and Sens are trying to find a resolution. There’s no stalemate, this is purely a cap issue.”As Postmedia reported when training camp opened Sept. 20, the Senators and Gross aren’t far apart on a two-year deal and this contract could cross the finish line any time. Pinto’s appearance in Ottawa would appear to be further proof that’s the case.
Nobody thought this situation would drag on this long, but everybody knows at some point or another it will get figured out and everybody involved will be happy if the Senators found a solution. “A lot of guys have been talking to him every single day. It kind of cheers him up but at the same time you don’t want to bug him too much. It’s a tough situation. I feel bad for him. I know he wants to be with us.”
